Indyprov does Improvathon

INDYPROV was delighted to road trip up to Chicago from Indianapolis recently for Improvathon and compete for 10K of prizes at Uncle Fatty's. Getting to see other troupes strut their best show-stuff is always awesome, and we brought the short form improv to liven up the Chicago scene (so said @unclefattyimpro so it MUST be true!) Also, we have a nice trolley.

Arrrr! We're on a pirate stage!
Look at us hamming it up there on the pirate themed stage - that's Bill Skaggs, David Bahr, Chris Meek and Kent Livingston hanging out sans cutlasses in the rigging. Arrgh! Also playing were Julie Inskeep and Rebecca McConnell, sadly not shown in the photo.

Also featured were Mansical, a group that charmed us with their musicality. Sing it, boys! Slightly Altered and Hitmen got the go ahead this round - congrats!

Good luck Niki!

Back in 2003, when a group of eager 20-somethings took an improv class, I never imagined it would turn into what it is today. Almost 8 years later, INDYPROV has shows every weekend in five venues all over Indianapolis. We've grown so much, added a slew of talented players and most importantly created a family.

One of the people in that class was Niki Hurrle Warner. She sat next to me the first day of class and she was as clueless as I was about improv comedy. But she had a knack for making people laugh and never backed down from a challenge. Like other comedic female icons, Niki wasn't afraid to look stupid or ugly to make people laugh. Although, she much prefer to be pretty. Niki can take a fall like no one I have ever met. But more than anything, she is so good and making people laugh and smile.

Niki and I, along with a handful of others from the class started INDYPROV in December of 2003. Since then, members have had babies, got married, moved, leaving Niki and I as the only founding members left.

Well, tonight is Niki's last show at Talbott Street Nightclub. Leaving me the sole founding member. It is bittersweet. Niki is pursuing her dreams and moving to California. She is a light on stage that can't be extinguished. Her INDYPROV family we miss her very much, but wish her the best of luck.

Personally, I will miss her very much and can't believe I have to go through this journey without her.

Please leave comments on our Facebook page wall wishing Niki good luck or posting a favorite memory of her time with INDYPROV.

Good luck Niki!
